Customer Reviews about Ochsner Medical Center

  • They are the best! They saved my life I needed a five bypass heart surgery and they took the best care of me!! I lived through it and didn't have a heart attack even though I was experiencing the signs of one. They also diagnosed my MS and are helping me take care of the relapses you could experience with that! They have been amazing! Thank you to everyone there!

I took my mom here in the middle of the night after she was experiencing shortness of breath which I assumed was due to her COPD. Our experience in the ER was ok. The doctor there suggested that she be admitted because she was breathing too many times per minute and he wanted her to be stabilized before sending her home. Once she made it to her room, the nurse working the late shift took good care of her and was very attentive, but after the next shift came, it was like everyone was clueless. No doctor has came to check on her since the previous night in the ER. She complained about a headache to a nurse and it literally took the nurse multiple hours to come back with Tylenol even with us reminding her that my mom said she was in pain. Everytime we try to ask for information on what their agenda was with her or if a doctor is around to check on her, we get told that one 'should' be on the way, then the nurses just disappear again for long periods of time. It's like no one knows what's actually going on and they're just giving vague and generic responses to stall time until the next shift or something. The only thing that's really happened since she was admitted to a room was that they served her breakfast and lunch. And even with her lunch, a nurse had to call the cafeteria to let them know that they forgot to bring her a tray. All I can say is that this has been a pretty bad experience. No one has been rude or anything like that, but just it's pretty concerning that no one seems to know what's going on and we simply just want to know how long they plan on keeping her and what their plan is to treat her. The answer for everything is just "I have to check with someone" or "The doctor will let you know" and they just disappear and we never get an answer. They DID make sure that the someone from the billing department visited the room, however.... You know it's a bad sign when it literally takes them 2 hours to bring their patient of Tylenol. It really just seems like this was just a hotel stay rather than an actual medical stay, due to the lack of information that the staff seemed to have and how we were given the run around anytime we asked something. If we have any further medical emergencies, I won't think twice to drive a few miles further out to go to the much more modern Our Lady of the Lake or something rather than go here again. Such a shame because our visit started off decent(considering it's a visit for a medical emergency). The ER staff was friendly, attentive, prompt and informed. The same could be said about the nurse assigned to my mom during the late night. But it went from that to being left forgotten in bed. I guess I should note that before I came to Ochsner, we went to a urgent care clinic. The doctor there told us to go specifically to Ochsner because he felt they needed to run some more tests on her ASAP. I asked the doctor there if Ochsner was a decent place and he hesitated and said "Um.... well, it's the closest one to here and I think she needs to have care administered as quickly as possible." And this doctor said he used to work there!
